About Me
Casey Martin
Instructional Designer & Academic Advisor
Background
My Story
I'm an instructional designer and academic advisor based in Tallahassee, FL, currently pursuing my MS in Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies at Florida State University.
My career has been rooted in education and human development — from guiding at-risk youth at the Pace Center for Girls to supporting college students as an Academic Advisor at FSU. Along the way I've developed a deep appreciation for how thoughtful design can transform learning experiences.
I bring a practitioner's lens to instructional design: I understand the learner's journey because I've walked alongside learners at every stage of life.
Looking Ahead
Career & Professional Goals
My immediate goal is to complete my MS in Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies at Florida State University and deepen my expertise in evidence-based learning design, eLearning development, and performance improvement. I am committed to building a rigorous theoretical foundation while continuing to apply what I learn in real-world educational contexts.
Professionally, I aspire to transition fully into instructional design — working within higher education, nonprofit organizations, or mission-driven institutions where learning has the power to change lives. I am especially drawn to projects that serve historically underserved populations, reflecting the equity-centered work I have done throughout my career.
Long-term, I hope to lead learning design initiatives at an institutional level — shaping curriculum strategy, mentoring emerging designers, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement in how organizations teach and support their people.
Philosophy
How I Approach Learning Design
Learner-Centered Design
Every design decision starts with the learner — their context, goals, and barriers. I build experiences that meet people where they are.
Evidence-Based Practice
I ground my work in learning science and instructional theory, translating research into practical, effective solutions.
Equity & Access
Inclusive design isn't an add-on — it's foundational. I design for diverse learners and ensure every experience is accessible.
Continuous Improvement
Good design is iterative. I use data, feedback, and reflection to refine and improve learning experiences over time.
